It’s also the only time of year when mulled wine is an acceptable (neigh, encouraged) refreshment after every salt-whipped walk. So what’s not to love?

Why spend Christmas in Cornwall 2026?
If you’re looking to immerse in mirthful merriment and enjoy some Yuletide festivities, you’re in for a treat in Cornwall. This year’s switch is held on 11th December 2025 and the lights will stay on until early January 2026.

Padstow Christmas Festival
After a brief pause in 2024, the newly branded Padstow Christmas Fayre in North Cornwall returns from 4th to 7th December 2025. Adding an intoxicating Christmas twist to the harbour, the event proposes Christmas feasting, cookery demos, live music, gift shopping, a fireworks display, lantern parade and more. Part of the line-up are around 50 chefs, including the likes of Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, Emily Scott, and Mark Hix.

Truro Christmas Market & Lights
One of the biggest Cornwall Christmas markets, Truro Christmas Market near Truro Cathedral on Lemon Quay runs from 21st November to 24th December 2025. Whether you’re seeking a roster of presents, the perfect stocking fillers, or are treating yourself to something special, there’s all sorts to intrigue. Adding to the temptation is a whole host of internationally-inspired Christmas cuisine, from bratwurst and gluhwein to churros.

Montol Festival, Penzance
The Montol Festival takes place annually on 21st December in Penzance. Revived in 2007,2 it follows in the footsteps of much older Midwinter celebrations, paying homage to the winter solstice and the passing of one year into the next. During the festival, expect lots of action in the form of traditional dancing, music and costumes, as well as, undoubtedly, the raising of a few drinks!

Eden Project Winter Wonderland
The Eden Project near St Austell is a great family-friendly attraction in winter. As well as a beautiful Christmas Lights Experience decorating the domes and gardens, Christmas at The Eden Project delivers an enchanted festive season with festive food, ice skating, Christmas rides, and a chance to meet Father Christmas himself. Magical Winter Walks & Coastal Adventures in Cornwall
Step foot on some magical winter walks Cornwall. One of the best outdoor things to do in Cornwall in December and the shoulder months, this family and dog-friendly pastime is free to enjoy by all.
- St Ives to Zennor: Head out west to uncover this soul-stirring walk. Around 7.5 miles in total,3 this linear route covers a challenging yet exhilarating stretch of coastline. Team up with a friend and leave a car at either end or hop on the bus to get back to your start point. Make sure you go to the wonderfully rustic Tinners Arms in Zennor for a pint by the log fire to reward yourself afterwards!
- Bedruthan Steps: There are two theories behind the Bedruthan Steps. A) They were formed courtesy of coastal erosion. B) They were used as stepping stones by a giant called Bedruthan. Whichever theory is your favourite (I know mine), these impressive stacks are a sight to see and can be enjoyed as part of a 4.5-mile circular walk4 from the National Trust’s Carnewas car park.
- Lizard Point: Mainland Britain’s most southerly point, The Lizard Point makes for a great Christmas walk. Look out for the local seals bobbing along the shoreline on clement days, or wave watch from the clifftops when the winter swells roll in. Simply park at the National Trust’s Lizard Lighthouse car park and wander down, stopping off for a bite to eat in England’s most southerly caf, Polpeor Café.

Cosy Pubs, Cafés & Christmas Dining
The Ship Inn, Porthleven: Beer mats on the ceiling, pints on the bar, piping hot food on the tables – just some of the reasons I love The Ship in Porthleven. Coupled with the mesmeric harbour views and warm atmosphere and it’s a winner on any winter’s day. You can’t book though, so turn up early to ensure a table.
The Gurnard’s Head, Treen: If you’re wandering out west, don’t forget to pay a visit to The Gurnard’s Head. You can stop by for a drink, but the delicious meals at this Michelin-recommend gastropub make it well worth lingering longer. Take a seat by the fire or nab a spot with sea views over the Atlantic for heavenly winter dining in Cornwall.
Pandora Inn, Falmouth: Right on the water, the Pandora Inn is one of the most cosy pubs in Cornwall and somewhere that immediately wins you over. The outdoor seating is only for the hardy in winter, but inside, the beamed ceilings and flagstone floors offer a cosy embrace for those seeking a spot of warmth and hearty Cornwall food and drink.
